Only the Second Time Ever! Rohit Sharma Sees An Irresistible feat Only Attained By MS Dhoni

When the two sides play each other on Wednesday, Rohit Sharma will be trying to become only the second Indian cricket captain in history—after MS Dhoni—to draw a Test series in South Africa. India’s dreams of winning their first-ever Test series in South Africa were shattered with a crushing loss in the first match.

But if Rohit wins the second Test, he will be able to do something that has only been possible once in the previous eight times. In the 2010–11 Test series, India and South Africa finished with a 1–1 draw under Dhoni’s leadership. India lost the Test series in 1992–93, 1996–97, 2001–02, 2006–07, 2013, 2018, and 2021–22 in addition to 2010–11.

Rohit Sharma said on Tuesday that India’s young batters will only need to figure out how to handle the “challenging” conditions in South Africa.

According to Rohit, the circumstances for the second Test, which begins at Newlands on Wednesday, shouldn’t be all that different from the first Test’s conditions in Centurion, where India lost by an innings.

“The pitch looks pretty similar to Centurion,” he said. “Maybe not full of grass but there is enough covering of grass on the pitch.”

Due to an injury, Sharma was unable to participate in his team’s trip two seasons ago, but teammates who were in Cape Town said that the situation seemed similar to it at the time, when South Africa emerged victorious in a closely fought match with the highest team total of 223.

During their first tour to South Africa, three of India’s top six batters failed miserably in Centurion. Sharma, who finished with a mere five and nought, said that the first game would have been beneficial to them.

“At some stage we all have to be exposed to conditions like this,” he said.

“I’m sure they took a lot away from the first game, and tomorrow is another chance for them to learn what’s expected of them.

“It is challenging but that’s what Test cricket is about,” he said.
